Educationist Komatireddy Gopal Reddy’s Appeal

Hyderabad, Roaming News: Prominent educationist, TRSMA state leader, and National Advisor of the Environment Protection and Development Council, Komatireddy Gopal Reddy, has strongly appealed for granting voting rights to private teachers in Teacher MLC elections. Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Sunday, he emphasized the vital role private schools play in literacy development, stating that 60% of students are educated in private schools. He pointed out that private teachers, who provide quality education and contribute significantly to the literacy rate, should not be excluded from voting in Teacher MLC elections. He expressed concern that denying them this right undermines democratic principles. “A teacher is a teacher, whether in a government or private school. The distinction between government and private schools should not affect the quality of teaching, which remains the same,” he noted in a memorandum submitted to the Election Commission.Recognizing the Role of Private TeachersKomatireddy argued that granting voting rights to private teachers in MLC elections would encourage more people to join the teaching profession. Highlighting the lack of proper recognition for private teachers, he emphasized the need to accord them due respect and honor. He further stated that attracting more quality educators to the profession requires such incentives, which would ultimately benefit students through improved education.Praising the Role of Private SchoolsHe praised the commendable role of budget private schools in the education sector and reiterated that every teacher working in these schools deserves to vote in Teacher MLC elections. While past directives from the Election Commission recognized this, they have not been fully implemented, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.Komatireddy urged the Election Commission to ensure that private school teachers are granted voting rights under all circumstances. Although some officials have extended their support, many private teachers across different regions still lack the opportunity to vote in MLC elections. He warned that if justice is not served, they would consider approaching the courts to resolve this issue.
