TRSMA Appeals to State Government

Hyderabad, Roaming News:The CGPA system has significantly reduced the stress of marks on students, promoted conceptual learning, and enhanced skill development. Therefore, the Telangana Recognized School Managements Association (TRSMA) has urged the state government to continue implementing this system. TRSMA State President Sadula Madhusudan, State General Secretary N. Ramesh Rao, and State Treasurer P. Raghavendra Reddy have made this appeal. In a representation submitted to the Principal Secretary of the State Education Department, they cited the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s orders in W.P. No. 13629/2012, stating that the implementation of the CGPA system has alleviated student stress. They warned that reverting to a marks-based evaluation system could increase anxiety and stress among students.Comprehensive EvaluationThey emphasized that the CGPA system offers a holistic assessment through projects, assignments, and class participation, enabling an all-rounded evaluation of students. Removing this system could limit the recognition of diverse student abilities, they argued.Student-Friendly ApproachThe grading system is beneficial even for average and below-average students, as it encourages them without demoralizing them based on marks. It provides an opportunity for improvement, they explained.TRSMA appealed to withdraw Memo No. 14572/SE.PToSII/A1/2022, issued on November 28, 2024, and to continue the CGPA system for the welfare of future generations.Previously, corporate educational institutions implemented an unhealthy marks-based system that announced state-level ranks. This practice not only fostered competition among institutions but also placed immense pressure on students. Recognizing this, the then government issued G.O. Rt. No. 592 and G.O. No. 419, implementing the CGPA system for SSC public examinations based on the CBSE model. Furthermore, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, in W.P. No. 13629/2012, directed the implementation of the CGPA system in SSC public examinations. The Telangana state government, through Memo No. 14572/SE.PToSII/A1/2022 dated November 28, 2024, announced its decision to abolish the CGPA system and revert to marks-based evaluations. While TRSMA supports reforms in the education system, they emphasized the need to prioritize students’ mental well-being and holistic development by continuing the CGPA system. They assured their willingness to cooperate with the government to enhance students’ mental health and educational standards.
